What is a Billable Item Request?
Alternate Image receives many requests each week for special design or custom programming work from existing clients. We strive in helping you grow your business and help you utilize our products while doing so. Many of the requests received are not billable; however, this article will give you some examples of items that are billable.
Design
Design work is usually billable when we have to make a change to anything in the header and footer of the website, which technically is the framework. Also, any graphics work that takes more than 1 hour is also billable. You will be notified by the support team before work has started if your request falls into a billable item.
The header and footer most times will include a left or right side bar as well. Both are designed to be consistent for each page of the website including landing pages. You can not change this through the Content Management System (CMS) simply because it can break the framework which is not good for a live website. If you are updating images that flash out in the top image rotator, this is not a billable item. In some cases the side bar can have CMS or an application programmed to pull data from the administration area which then could be edited. See examples below.

Other design billable work include Logos, Advertising Banners or flyers, image cropping, color or background changes, or even print material. A general rule to determine if something would be billable is if the item is not editable within the CMS or if it is an additional design to your already existing website. Custom email blast designs are also available at $150 per design.

Programming
Programming billable work is when the request is above and beyond the initial programming of the contractual website. Because AI is a development company, we can do any type of custom programming, however, our time is very valuable and depending on the scope of the project and time frame (usually more than 8 hours of work) we may require a consultation.
Example requests for custom programming projects would include: - Building a new application, one that is not already included in our application suite
Administration area where the "Sports" custom programming tab would appear.
Custom programming to display beautifully on the User side of the website.
- Building an iPhone application
- Enhancement requests to any of our existing application suite
Example requests for smaller programming projects (less than 8 hours of work) would include:
- Programming a search or sort function
Programming billable work starts at $125 per hour. Or, you may call the office for a phone consultation. It may take us up to 48 hours to reply to your request. This allows for us to discuss the project in detail in order to provide an estimate and time of completion.
